$150The cover art of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is as iconic and groundbreaking as the music contained on the album. Designed by British Pop artist Peter Blake in 1967, the cover is a collage consisting of dozens of famous faces, including Marlon Brando, Marilyn Monroe, Oscar Wilde, Karl Marx and Bob Dylan. Toronto-based artist Dave Dyment’s artist’s book takes up where the cover leaves off. Made up of a series of photographs culled from a range of sources, Dyment has developed a conceptual orchestra that features figures from the cover playing various musical instruments, such as Albert Einstein playing violin alongside Marlene Dietrich on the musical saw. The use of found imagery reflects the influence of John Baldessari, while continuing Dyment's interest in the picturing of sound and the conflation of high and low culture.
